That's Customer Service, Baby! (reciprocal exchanges)

Some time over two years ago I submitted RtF to LS Blogs[1], which is a blog only directory. Basic, you scratch my back by linking to me and I'll scratch your back by linking to you. Which is topical, as we've recently installed software to manage our “Friends” reciprocal link directory. And in a blatant plug, we're looking for a few good friends to exchange links with, so click that link above and add yourself already :) (political orientation not required, but a big bonus for those supporting truth, justice, and the American way, well the American way that I remember)

Well, getting back to LS Blogs, they've just sent their, “you're accepted” letter. How nice! And we were only suppose to link to you for two years, before you could be bothered to even review us for inclusion into your hip and happen'n Blog directory?

On the scale of shadier to nicer in the realm of website directories, for a listing on their directory you go from (top being very bad, bottom being the nicest):

1) Directory asks for a fee (but buries their link to you[2])
2) Directory wants a link back (but buries their link to you)
3) Directory doesn't require a link back (but buries their link to you)

4) Directory asks for a fee (with good link to you)
5) Directory wants a link back (with good link to you)
6) Directory doesn't require a link back (with good link to you)

And there is a whole 'nother component of do they review the sites submitted or will they accept any 'ol Viagra or Porn site...

At the time, they would have had to have been a 5 on the above nicety scale, as that's pretty much the group I'd target to bring exposure to RtF. But, I'm sure I wiped our link back to them within a few weeks, as that just shoves them up to a 2 based on the whole unethical component.

Same 'ol, same 'ol, really...

But hey, it's better to get an email from two years ago than the regular spam of, “Masturbation Outdoor sides toast,” “Dear Customer Feel Good Now!,” or “Bubble asss teeinager comes suite” with their requisite text created by what has to be a random word generator... Because, “Hello, Mamma Takes Two water. past hard oven frog bills, look ante beams, walls rose hours week.” from the last one sure doesn't make much sense to me. And actually, I'd really like to know if they even get people to click the links in the text?

Oh, well, enough rambling for today...

If you support non-aggression or individual rights, we'd enjoy your Friendship,
MJ

[1] LS Blogs - Blog Directory and Search Engine for the blogging community
[2] A buried link has no value, as Search Engines (e.g. Google ) can't see the link, so no Search Engine Goodness (tm) is conveyed to your site.

What email did you receive?

The only emails sent out recently to blogs accepted a couple of years ago were a small newsletter basically informing people there blog was still listed in the directory, and of the latest updates to the directory.

Your blog had been listed for a very long time, its on page 3 of the political blog section, and was in the first 1000 blogs accepted into the directory. It certainly has not been accepted recently, it has been listed for a long time.

The email you should have received should have started with

"Just a quick note to say your site is still listed in LSBlogs, the blog directory and search engine for the blogging community."

and then go on to give you the link where it is, and then tell you the news about new features etc.

Did you receive something different?

Well,Egg on my face then, I

Well,

Egg on my face then, I did find us on page four (not three), but, I'm still going to have to de-link your site from us.

If we've been on page four for two years, which is reasonable since we were site 922 to be added (per above), then why does only the first page of your Political directory show PR and pages 2, 3, 4, and all subsequent pages show "unranked?"

This just begs the question, “What are you doing that's causing the first four pages which have been around for two years, have all have been linked to each other, and only the top most page is receiving PR?”

If you fix whatever happens to be causing your site to devalue/nofollow/not-index subsequent pages, drop us a line and we'll re-add you.
