Boycott the 2010 census

"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct." - Article 1, Section 2 –Constitution of the United States of America

It's only 2009 and the 2010 census is already raising a ruckus. 

It first became newsworthy when Obama, Neophyte of the Presidency, fell under the thrall of the Census, abducted her from Commerce and whisked her off to the White House, much as Paris abducted Helen and scampered off with her to Troy.

Republicans instantly cried, "Power grab." 

Then it came out that the Former Illinois Community Organizer Barack Obama's favorite assemblage of activists, ACORN, would officially "partner" with the Census to help supply the 1.4 million foot soldiers needed for the massive people-counting effort. ACORN is variously known as The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, Democrat Party Brown Shirts, The Obama Youth Corps, Voter Fraud Experts Par Excellence, etc.

Republicans cried, "Power grab" again. But maybe they're just jealous that they don't have their own private army of ideology enforcers. 

In any case, America's Founding Powdered Wig Wearers would be appalled at what modern politickers have done to the simple act of enumerating the people. 

In their day it was simple. Each state sent two of its own to the Senate to represent them. They also sent a number of Representatives to the House of that name based on the population within each state. The more people, the more representatives. Hence the enumeration. Simple. 

Today the census is a racket. It doesn't just count people, it manipulates the count to ensure that pockets of people who routinely vote for the polecats in power are higher while opposition voters are counted lower. Then, Congressional and local legislative districts are gerrymandered, which means drawing lines on maps to create areas guaranteed to vote for You while chopping up neighborhoods that usually vote for Them. 

(It all gets reversed when the Polecats are out of power and the Other Polecats are in.) 

Then there's the second census racket. As the middleclass pacifier Sunday newspaper insert, Parade Magazine, put it, "At stake is more than $300 billion a year in federal and state funds for schools, public transportation, hospitals, roads, and other services, all of which is allocated according to census figures." 

In short, money stolen from citizens of the states in the form of federal taxes is sent back to the states as a yoke that binds everyone to the national throne in Washington. It ensures that everyone is shackled by shekels to the shysters in D.C. 

And then there's the third racket: The census is used as a massive marketing survey that snoops deep into every aspect of taxpayer's lives, as well as digging $14 billion deep into taxpayer's pockets to pay for the unwanted snooping, and then turns the results over to corporate cronies gratis so politically-connected companies can better target us with their sales pitches. 

During the 2000 census, libertarians did more than cry "Power grab." 

They cried, "Boycott!" 

The national Libertarian Party launched a highly successful "Just Say No To Nosy Census Questions" campaign. 

"Census information is used to forge the chains that bind Americans to failed government programs, meddlesome bureaucracies, and a sky-high tax rate," said then LP National Director Steve Dasbach. 

The Dallas Morning News quoted then LP spokesman George Getz on March 13, 2000: "The Libertarian Party is encouraging people to answer just one question on the census." 

What question is that? The one question authorized by the U.S. Constitution - How many people are you? 

Read the snippet at the beginning of this article again. The Constitution, being the Prime Law of this land, and having not had it's enumeration requirement amended, cannot be overruled by lower laws demanding that free and sovereign individuals divulge their race, whether they're married, how many bathrooms they have in their house, and other impertinent inquiries. 

The Constitution says "Enumerate." Enumerate means "Count." It doesn't mean "snoop." It doesn't mean "spy." It doesn't mean "Intimidate people with threats of fines and jail time to force them to answer questions they have no Constitutional requirement to answer." 

This time the boycott needs to be even bigger. The Libertarian Party needs to work with other freedom folks like the national Tea Party movement, Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty, Hispanic groups (Hispanic groups call for Census boycott – USA Today) and every human who actually cares about freedom. 

And it needs to start right now.
