What You Can Do - Please Drink and Drive

To anticipate the What You Can Do corresponding to this column, we really have to "go deep" with a theoretical basis for recovering all our freedoms.  In other words, we have to get into a larger discussion of Grand Strategy—subject for a subsequent column.  Grand Strategy is a huge subject occupying the best minds in the libertarian movement.

— from Reason to Freedom

If you're looking for something to do now, here are some options:

  1. Write your legislators
  2. Start an issue petition to repeal the seat belt laws (if that one is successful, a petition to repeal the BAC limits becomes feasible)
  3. If you're in a private-property antismoke state, start an issue petition to immediately repeal the smoke bans on private property
  4. Write letters to the editor, one per week isn't excessive
  5. Find your local Libertarian Party and join it, tell your friends; always vote Libertarian in the absence of a compelling counterreason
  6. Attend city council meetings and encourage police and courts to prioritize protection of life, liberty, and property; we can't afford aggression by the police on consensual "crime"
  7. Start/join a book discussion group or social club focusing on public policy issues
  8. Foster public shaming of sleazy government officials who attempt to profit by grinding up the lives of innocent users who have no effective spokesmen
