I vividly recall JF Kennedy saying "ask not what your country can do for you...." and thinking, at that time, when I was what, 12 or 13, "no, no, that's not right - isn't the country supposed to do for us? Isn't that what government is for?" Americans screwed that one up, didn't "we"!!!
