Here we are facing another set of holidays and we are all scattering around looking for some new and unusual gifts to give our friends and family members. Coming off of a dramatic and emotional election where I found myself unable to vote for either candidate, I wrote in P.J. O'Roark. That tells you where I stood politically on November 2nd.
What would I want for Christmas? As I was thinking through things like world peace, or hunger removed from so many people, it suddenly dawned on me that I would like my American freedoms restored! Yes!
A voice from my past suddenly burst forth and the word "CAPITALISM" came crashing down on my keyboard. I suddenly remembered a post I had read earlier in the day from a libertarian discussion forum and I flashed back there and there it was. Somebody had referenced a new political party called, of all things, "The Capitalism Party." I flagged it for further reading and continued my musings about Holiday gifts. It nagged at me for a while until I simply dialed it in and there it was!
I had learned about Capitalism from my Grandfather and all the wonderful things this new economic system brought to all Americans and especially our own family members who had been cattle people from Scotland and migrated to America through Canada to find fame and fortune in the new land. They had to spend several years in Canada to earn the money to start over in the new country where it was still fairly free of government intrusion and where land could be bought, cattle brought in and the family could settle down and prosper. For years they made their way in several areas of the east until the draw to the west hit. They sold their lands for a good profit; being from Scotland that was absolutely necessary, and off they went heading west.
I was lucky as these pioneers could read and write and their journals have been preserved and protected where they eventually were cataloged in the Temple Archives in Salt Lake City.
I read through these journals at the same time I discovered the writings of Ayn Rand and it all seemed to fit together. She introduced me into the terms: Free Enterprise, Laissez Faire Capitalism, and the philosophy of Objectivism. This is what my ancestors wrote about in their migration but of course using different terms. The meanings of the terms were obviously the same but given usable terms that would last forever cutting through many divisions of political actions and party affiliations.
Ms. Rand was an American Idealist and used her idealism in all her leading characters. There are so many role models in her books that it becomes a chore to find one to hang our own ideals on. I, of course was drawn to the women in her stories and then would transfer to the two leading men Hank Reardon and Howard Roark. Before I was finished I found my philosophy hidden in all her characters and stories.
The core of her books always came back to Capitalism and the fight for Free Enterprise. Well why not? I was fed up with the Republican Party that had given up Capitalism for a new brand of Theocracy under the new President; I was fed up with the Libertarian Party who had fallen into a coma of ignoring everything. I quietly transferred the URL into my home page and voila! There it was, a whole section of Capitalistic points that I hadn't seen since the days of Reagan.
Now I would love to share this experience with my readers and take you all back to the early days of American freedoms of limited government, individual freedoms and personal responsibilities. This is the best I have to offer this holiday season of 2004. Welcome to my new site of a return to Capitalism:

If you are inclined, scroll down and join us in a discussion forum which I have to admit is brand new and open to all levels of discussions and input.
Happy holidays to all of you!
