Re: A Lynching, by Riverbend (Girl Blog from Iraq)

River, of Baghdad Burning, is no longer accepting comments and one of her last entries sparked a nerve, so I've emailed her a shortened version of this (I really don't expect her to get it with all the false 'spam' filtering going on now) and I'll post a more in depth response here. Go read her post first, it's a good read even with the generalizations I'm unhappy about.

Dear River,

Your post "A Lynching..." is excellent as usual, but I did want to reply to the below statements.

> "America the savior… After nearly four years and Bush's biggest achievement in Iraq has been a lynching. Bravo Americans."

I've been reading your site for years. I've had a link to it for close to two. I'm continually horrified at the atrocities US forces (and their lackies) are doing to Iraq and Iraqis in supposedly my, and my country members, name. Please don't paint us all with the same brush.

> "This is allegedly the democracy the Americans flaunt. Is this how bloodthirsty and frightening we've become? Is this what Iraq stands for now? Executions?"

No. That may be the fascism Mr. Bush desires, but in no way is it the democracy we Americans desire.

We Americans do not like Mr. Bush, do not support him, and a vast number of us would truly like to see him impeached and jailed for the war crimes he has instigated and committed against your country and others. He is not our president, irregardless of how many times he has rigged elections to proclaim himself with that title.

I apologize that I could not do more to stop the puppet and madman who currently calls himself the President of the United States of America.

I can't claim to speak for all Americans, but I'm sure that every last American with a shred of ethics still left in their body feels the same.

Best Regards,
