One of my favorite parts of the movie A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is where the dolphins, being the more highly advanced species on the planet decide to boogie because the humans who, being underdeveloped can’t heed their wisdom or warnings concerning the imminent demise of Earth and who have persisted in trashing and destroying their home. The dolphins were smart enough to know that the shit was about to hit the proverbial fan – we humans were too busy watching Survivor or American Idol I suppose. Is life about to imitate art?

The headlines are non-stop warnings against national hubris; every other month brings another country that isn’t toeing the line and needs to be “democratized”. We, and by “we” I mean the citizens of the United States; are regular bears about telling other countries about what they can or can’t do-can or can’t possess or can or can’t develop. Are we as a country so unbelievably blind that we’re unable to see the supreme irony of our screeching against a particular country developing nuclear power when we possess more nukes than any other country in the world?! Talk about taking “Do as I say, not as I do” to a whole new level.

As near as I can figure, the Powers That Be in the USGOV would love nothing more than to see everyone on the planet disarmed-except themselves of course. And if I remember my history class correctly, one of the main issues that motivated our Founding Fathers was the threat from England to disarm the colonies. How can it be that we celebrate, no…that we lionize the right to bear arms but we see other’s desire to arm as a punishable threat?

Do we have reason to be afraid of other countries? I believe we do- after all, there is only so long that we can continue alienating the rest of the world until someone decides to take us down a notch or two.

Where then will the majority of us citizens be if and when this happens? Will it be in a secure bunker somewhere under Weather Mountain perhaps? No, that’s exclusively for the armchair warriors and neocon chickenhawks that have the balls to tell the world to “Bring it on!” but get to hide when it comes. You and I, the little people will be out in the open, breathing the radioactive fallout providing we’re lucky enough to survive the blast. They, the warmongers, fully realize exactly what it is that they don’t want us to know….that when people are armed to the teeth it’s easier to make a stand and defend what’s yours- and that’s exactly what scares them shitless.

And this my friends is what really pisses me off…the genuinely kind, compassionate children… mine and yours; the children that have never killed anyone or made policies that get anyone killed will perish from this Earth. And what cockroaches will crawl out of their bunkers in the scorched land and resume control….the same slimy bastards that destroyed our futures and our children’s futures. It ain’t right, no matter where you live or what color you are it ain’t right.

If I could wave a magic wand and rid the world completely of nukes I’d do it in a heartbeat – I don’t feel they’re safe in anyone’s hands. But, I fail to see how our elected officials (and I use the term loosely!) can rationalize the US having what amounts to enough nukes to destroy the world many times over, yet deny other countries the right to defend themselves against all arrogant bullies of the world. I realize there are some that will say that we, the United States, alone are responsible enough; that we alone possess the altruistic compassion; the unselfish concern for human life- that other emergent nations don’t value human life as we do…that nukes are perfectly safe in our hands. To those people I have two words for you: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We have become the rogue nation, the bully of the world who seeks to not only disarm our own citizens but neuter all the citizens of our planet.

I sincerely hope the dolphins take me and my family up when they go; I’m willing to seek the wisdom of their council…..so long and thanks for all the fish you warmongering bastards.
