My thoughts are that the author was pretty pissed that day, and while I sympathize with his sentiments, I really don't have anything to suggest that can be "done" about impolite drivers.  Statements about requiring a bread truck license aside, the best I can come up with is:

- Drive politely,
- Try not to be angered into irrational behavior by idiots,

and don't buy SUVs?  That last bit is in the concept that if auto makers have a receding demand for these behemoths, then they will stop making quite so many of them.

I also suppose there are also convoluted arguments about not helping terrorists (from the increased need for oil due to bad gas mileage.) But even then, the ethical construct of allowing others to do as they wish as long as they are not hurting someone else comes to mind.  So while I won't buy an SUV, or probably drive impolitely for that matter, I'm not going to advocate that you don't have the right to do either.
