A Government Out of Control
Submitted by Sandra Price on Sun, 2001-01-07 13:00.
Oh yes, I am writing about the U.S. Federal Government. No, I am not pointing my finger at the Republicans or the Democrats but the entire Federal Government which is becoming a dangerous power whose authority is removing too many of our rights. Let's take a look at the War on Drugs. Is there any doubt where the drugs originate? Let's see, yesterday it was Columbia S.A. Has this changed in the last 24 hours? Nope! What has the U.S. Government done with this information? Nothing at that end, but the citizens of America are under a terrible siege. Combine the Federal Power of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with the War on Drugs and we have developed a monster that is well beyond the legal bounds clearly laid out in the U.S. Constitution. At this time, the massive new War has the power to break into our homes, search our possessions and seize our computers looking for evidence of drug purchases or sales; all this without a court order or warrant. The FBI is working on a computer program that will break into our databases and emails searching for key words that will then be added to their files to profile us all. When this information meets up with the Identification Cards and census facts, the U.S. Government will have complete files on every single American with our health histories including DNA information, school records, employment records, credit ratings, Federal and State Income tax records, voter registrations, investment records, i.e., every single thing about us. All this information is being compiled to help the Federal Government fight the War on Drugs! My question is "how?" How will a billion dollar database possibly help catch the drugs being imported from Columbia? Will the U.S. borders be surrounded by armed computers? Will one file stop the drugs being flown into the small airports around the Mexican border? Will this terrible intrusive database will be used by the U.S. Federal Government against American Citizens! Is this acceptable to any of us? Must we spend billions of taxpayer's dollars used to trap our family members and ourselves for jail terms? Who designed this intrusive and illegal program anyway?
