I Cannot Understand the Florida Problem

I am sitting in my office listening to some very disturbing crowds of people on C-SPAN. Apparently Jesse Jackson will be having a rally tomorrow in Tallahassee to try to get at the bottom of this mess in Florida.

In listening to the speakers I have picked up some interesting problems here. One well-spoken woman told that too many black men in Florida have lost their right to vote. She didn't explain that they were on parole for felonies. If they want these men (1/3 of black men? this can't be right, can it?) to vote, they will have to change the law in Florida. This is not the proper time to do this.

Then another woman told that when black men go to get their driver's licenses they should have been given a motor/voter form. (Do they have this in Florida?) Anyway since they didn't get the voter registrations form, they simply went to vote and were turned away. Now they demand their rights just like everybody else. Excuse me?

A third woman said that when the black voters didn't have identification cards, they were turned away. I had to show my registration card and identification when I voted here in Arizona. What's the big deal? The all seem to be able to use the word disenfranchisement so wouldn't you think they could find some identification?

The night following the election, I was unable to sleep and turned on CSPAN and listened to a group of black Washington DC people discussing the problems for blacks in general. I have some sympathy for this minority and so I listened. I believe Eleanor Norton was present along with a black radio personality. They were discussing having special ballots for black Floridians!

I couldn't believe my ears. What is this? Something began to smell here and I got out of bed and had a cup of coffee. Now that I look back I should have been aware of the potential undercurrent building with this group.

This afternoon I am being asked to believe that in several areas of Florida, many blacks (this is not my emphasis, this is theirs) voted on the machines in their area but their chads were left handing or pregnant or something and were thrown out.

My first question is how do they know the color of the voter? Then it hit me!!! Yes, they will have their own special ballot and it will be a different color!

Just think of this. In 2004, the black Floridian voters won't even have to be counted by machine, their ballots will be blue or something and can just be gathered up and given to Hillary Clinton!!!

In my entire life, I have never been a racist. I, too, marched down Ventura Boulevard in North Hollywood in sympathy for Dr. King's brave demonstrations. Never would I ever believe that we Americans were not equal in every single way.

This Election of 2000 has made me aware of the terrible use of the blacks using their color as a whipping block to put Vice President Gore in the White House. I don't like this and I'm shocked at the way the politicians are using an entire black community for their own gain.

I have hope that some day someone will point this out to the people of Florida that changing the laws of voting and counting after the fact is pure corruption and may be used against them if the white community ever decides to play the same game. From what I am reading, this will be a real feature in 2004. Beware!

I sincerely hope this will never happen but the voters of America are thoroughly disappointed with the voters of Florida who seem to expect special rules and laws to cover their own inability to vote as the rest of us have done for hundreds of years.

I can't believe that Florida's men and women can't go into the post office, city or county offices, police stations and find voter registration forms. I'm no rocket scientist but I did. I registered my car, changed my address on my driver's license and registered to vote on the same day I got my library card.

All of Florida should be ashamed of themselves.
