Goodbye to Capitalism?

Why is it necessary to try to destroy Capitalism just because a corrupt Republican is President at this time? Do our schools even mention Capitalism as money making form of economics? Even as a child, I realized that being born a female in the early 30s put limits on my employment record and I probably would never be able to look forward to retirement unless I married a wealthy man. That was a "given" in the early 50s and even with a college degree the glass ceiling was always there.

I remember complaining to someone in my family about this and he told me in no uncertain terms that America was a Capitalistic Nation and I could indeed make money through investments. In fact would be the only way I could become self-sustaining. I took some classes at the local business college and learned to use all the office machines developed at that time. My first job was writing obituaries and book reviews for our local newspaper. I married, had some kids and found myself divorced and my office skills way out of date. I could not make enough money to even rent a house for the family. My ex-husband bought me an old car and then took off with his secretary and expected me to support all of us. What a damn fool I was not to go to college. I could cook and sew but that would never pay for anything. I would rather have died than go on welfare and I borrowed some money to make a down payment on a cabin (not even by the stretch of the imagination could this dump be called a home) and we moved in and discovered it had no heat, no gas lines and no sewer. My grandmother paid the tuition for my girls and convinced me that doing so would be the best investment possible.

I registered with an Employment Temp Agency and they taught me how to use all the newest word processing machines and sent me out to do what I could for their clients. I could write, I could type and I could spell. I had been an addicted reader and had the kind of knowledge that only an addicted reader gathers. They sent me out to a small sales office for a large paper corporation and they make me a permanent member of the company. I had insurance for the first time.

I took in costuming jobs as I was familiar with the historical apparel of Shakespeare and soon was able to pay off my cabin. The combination of owning my own property and putting money into the education of my kids made it possible for me to look into investments outside of my property. I bought and sold a couple of homes and inherited a piece of property in Santa Monica that I sold and reinvested in a commercial building further north.

I had no business background and the only way I could look toward retirement was to be found in property. I had many friends who bought expensive beach homes and luxury cars and I wondered how long the values of these things would last, considering the property taxes in California. I bought old homes and clunkers for cars and used my commercial building for a book store. I knew I would never be rich but I did want to retire from work eventually with enough income to at least pay my Amazon.com bills. Renting out the building and working full time allowed me some luxuries like season tickets to the Symphony and the Mozart festival.

I always bought in the lower-valued sections of my areas, fixed up the houses and waited for the rest of the world to discover my new community. I managed to get onto the internet and ran head-long into a new movement of Socialism. Since the Government went into a corruption mode that I believe started with Bush 41 and continued through Clinton and now with Bush 43, the voters believe that seeing the government go so out of control that we must rid it from Capitalism. My internet friends believe that the world would run more smoothly if the federal government offered us free health care and free education (including college) for our children and then free Social Security/Medicare so we could all live at the same level of income and own the same level of homes and cars. We would have only to look at the government for hand outs if things went bad in our nation, communities and employment opportunities.

There's no fun in socialism. It is simply a redistribution of wealth along with a reduction of academics in the schools and a loss of medical care. The American people are now being sold on allowing the federal government to set our moral values through the issuing of the social issue prohibitions. The danger of allowing the government to tell us what to do, what to learn and what to buy and eat and smoke is nothing but a desire for the development of American sheep. The final assault came via Bush 43 who has a great desire to make us all part of America under God. Jesus must be returned to the public buildings and classrooms and then the government will full power over every individual.

Since 2000 and my hopping around on the internet I'm being told people need full government control over our lives. We cannot be trusted to educate our kids at home or even in private schools as the teacher's unions feel neglected. We are being told we cannot have control over the behavior problems of our kids and we can be sent to prison if we raise a hand to an out of control child. We cannot smoke in a car where children are riding. Some Conservative group has asked the Congress to keep pornography off television. I found television so obnoxious in the 60s our home did not have a television. Should we have in our family a gay person, we are told they cannot marry the person they love.

Are Americans so ill-educated at this time that we cannot live lives outside of the federal government and we will have to contact our congressman to tell us when we can die? This is Socialism of the soul and it is pissing me off! All the work I've done and all the old cars and homes I have had to buy and sell has been wasted. Any chance at my leaving my kids anything will be up to the government to decide if my inheritance money will go to my kids or taken by the federal government. Listen to the Liberals screaming that I should not be able to leave anything as this inheritance will only make them richer.

This is the result of American people electing a group of corrupt, abusing, members of the religious right. None of them are good strong Americans. They are all taking money from the tax payers and investing it to make themselves richer than Midas. They dare to call themselves Republicans and even Conservatives when there is not a single moral, ethical person to be found anywhere in the White House.

What's the alternative? The liberals offer us nothing but a lot of whining rhetoric. Is there nowhere a strong Independent platform can be written that will get this rotten government off our backs? Is there no true statesman who can lead us out of this hell hole called Conservatism? Has Socialism eaten away at our individual freedoms to a point where we cannot even express what it is we want and need?

I'm tired of hearing that Capitalism means greed and domination over our nation. What we have is not Capitalism but a government run by tyrants and terrorists who use everything in their power to scare the hell out of all of us. If we are going to locate a free and ethical system for government we may have to do it without the voters realizing we are working for freedoms. The voters are frightened of freedoms and believe they can trust the federal government to lead us from the crib to the grave in the best possible way.

Have we no decent ethical teachers or parents who understand the history of American Independence? Is this what has caused many of our high school graduates to read at the 4th grade level?
