Hounding Obama 11 – Forever Political

Did you ever wonder how those car dealers were selected that had to be closed? Here is one reporter's view:

“I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates .” [emphasis in original] An independent researcher.

A late May editorial in one of the most prestigious American newspapers epitomizes how far this country has strayed from its founding principles. From a recent New York Times article about the government's commandeering of Chrysler entitled “So Far So Good”:

A few weeks “after Chrysler filed for bankruptcy protection, it looks as if the Obama administration's goal of completing the carmaker's restructuring by June, allowing it to emerge as a smaller, more viable contender in the global auto market.”

What will government directors on the boards of GM and Chrysler do? Lower the cost of cars and improve their fuel efficiency? We will find out once again that government cannot produce anything. It probably will result in what happened to the car factories built behind the Iron Curtain by Fiat – remember the Yugo and the Brabant , cardboard doors and all?

Alex Epstein of the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights explains it well. He asks if this should be t he administration's goal? The government should not have goals for private companies. This is exactly the opposite of what the government should be doing. Here is the purpose of government as explained in the Declaration of Independence — a declaration of men who had studied and lived under governments that made individuals subservient to government goals. After explaining that every individual has “certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” it explains the purpose of government: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men….” To elaborate and apply to today's situation: Government exists to secure our rights.

Government is not our master, with goals of its own, but our servant, protecting our rights so that we can pursue our own goals — be it to start a car company and run it how we choose, to trade with the best car companies we can find, to buy the sort of automobile we judge best, not an Obamobile, and to keep our money instead of having it funneled to failed businesses.

In this era of self-righteous “change,” in which we are repeating time-failed policies of collectivism and central planning, we would do well to study the history and philosophy of America's unique form of government — and understand why the government's only valid goal is to protect individual rights. There is no better place to start than “Man's Rights” by Ayn Rand (in her book Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal ).

It has been said that in just four months, Obama has created more Czar's than Russia created in four hundred years. A Czar is someone that must be obeyed, someone to whom the people bow down. Does this portend where American the Land of the Freed is now headed?

Remember the wisdom of George Santayana about neglecting to study history? It seems imperative to the U.S. government to avoid close scrutiny of the causes of the 2008 financial crisis. “Don't just stand there. Do something.” Never mind that the action taken is what got us into this trouble in the first place. Appoint Czars, increase government power and spend money as fast as you can. Never mind that the economy has started to heal itself.

We have had plenty of Czars already, the heads of the Federal Reserve, of the Office of Thrift Supervision (which had full oversight over Washington Mutual and AIG and could have pulled in the reins on AIG's derivatives trading), of The Department of Labor Relations (which helped the UAW strangle the auto industry), of The Anti-Trust agency within the Department of Justice (exercizing brutally subjective control over industry), etc.

Nevertheless, in the long run, this trend toward a Totalitarian State will fail. Just look at the nervous uncertainty in the faces of the Czars when they are grilled by Congress or the Press. They will be unable to gather the knowledge to run their part of this economy or their individual part. It is impossible.

The United States cannot affort such misdirected spending, such squandering of wealth. What happens when only half of what the government spends in a year comes from taxes? The government prints the other half. Moreover, it promises that it will take any action necessary to avoid deflation and inflation. It will keep the Dollar strong, no matter what that takes, manipulating the currency market, dumping gold, silver, oil, etc., to keep the appearance of a strong Dollar (read more about gold manipulation at GATA). If you voted for this all I can say is “Brother, you asked for it!”

This brings to an end this series of articles on the theme of “Hounding Obama.” Further “houndings” may be carried out, but not on an every two weeks schedule.

honesty in reporting

As I recall from reading Ayn Rand in my youth, honesty was a high value to her. Some of her most reviled characters were publishers and reporters who didn't speak the truth.

So I'm takenaback by by the shoddy reporting on your blog. It smacks more of propaganda than of a desire to share ideas and speak the truth. Calling a blog titled "doug ross @ journal" an independent researcher (a site in which you can barely read the content for the right wing ads plastered all over it) is more than just a stretch -- it's dishonest.

If you don't believe your ideas and facts can stand honestly and openly without such puffery, why proclaim them?

Cold hard facts, buddy...

Sorry you can't read and filter information for yourself? Doug's article is cogent and factually accurate. The site it's on has been a finalist in multiple years of Weblog Awards. The content is in a single, contiguous column, that has no ads of any kind within it, and as such is easily readable. So, after your comment, I can only ask what is your agenda? Why do you choose to use “dishonesty” and “puffery” instead of cold hard facts to rebut the ideas and truths spoken here?
