I'm sitting here on what has been called "Black Saturday" trying to make some sense into the Clinton/Reno action of sending armed guards into a home in Miami for the sole purpose of taking a six year old boy away from his safe haven and carrying him crying with fright into the early morning dawn to meet his father.
Why is this so shattering to so many of us? Somewhere in the depths of my brain I remember reading someone else's words that will describe it better than I can. Ah, yes, in the Introduction to the 25th Anniversary Edition of "The Fountainhead" Ayn Rand was explaining why she dedicated the book to Frank O'Connor, her husband.
Rand's philosophy is based on ideals, ideal heroes, ideal situations, timeless, fundamental, universal problems and values of human existence that we all respect and strive for in our own lives. She writes about how things should be, not how they are. She stated that Frank was the fuel that dept the ideal concept lighted during the writing of the book and through the many rejections she received. Frank used to tell her that in her characters she rejected the commonplace and wrote for the characters that had the courage of their convictions.
As we watch the Clinton years unfold we are shattered by the terrible actions of the whole administration. There are very few heroes in our government these days. The Clintons are unethical users of people's money, allegiance and especially users of our Constitution for their personal gain. Every few months some new action appears that cuts our leadership down another peg in our eyes. The ideals that we all felt were the basis of our patriotism are gone. Does this harm us? Absolutely! We who hold our history and Constitution as a basis for good and ideal action are outraged at what is now called "The Clinton Years."
Many of us are mixed in our opinions about Elian. Some feel his bond with his father was the best ideal and some felt the living in a free America would be better. We were all attached by our love and desire for a good and safe resolution to the problem.
The other side of the aisle shows the power grab of our own ideals. Bill, Hill, Janet Reno and scores of other leaders in our country have no real concept of the value of conflict resolution. They are concerned only with protecting their own butts at any cost.
We, who know what Rand was saying, are attempting to return the American ideals to our country. We can live with a "not so perfect" new president as long as we know that we share even a tiny piece of the American ideals. We need a Frank O'Conner to prod all of us, especially our leaders in W.D.C. into keeping the vision of a good, honest and free America as something to aim for.
Let's get united in our resentment and distrust of any more actions like this Black Saturday and resolve and remove from our hearts any more of these terrorist acts. Let's change our point of view into one of success in November. We know socialism is not for us in America. We also know that capitalism is the basis of our economics, so let's get on with it.
