Rex Goliath Shiraz California

It’s got a cute rooster on the label but frankly the wine itself is unspectacular. Perhaps with a couple of bottles and the 47 pound bird, you might have a really nice Cou au Vin. For a party of 20! It has a clear, bright violet color with little structure to the wine. Some faint berry notes can be discerned with a little effort on your nose. The berry notes and maybe a little pepper, can be detected on your palette along with some tannins at the end of your taste to “kick it up a notch.” It has an OK balance, save for the tannins at the end, a short finish, moderately dry and no off notes. A fuller taste or nose might have kicked this score up somewhat. Grade: C Price: $6 Rex Goliath
