According to recently released Census Bureau stats America'spoverty rate remains at record levels.
Of course, the War on Poverty isn't meant to end poverty; it's meant to enrich the ruling class by perpetuating hundreds of thousands of jobs for their enabling bureaucrats and civil servants.
Government creates poverty by its sheer size and then is supposed to "end" poverty by increasing its size.
Here are just a few solutions that every libertarian understands about fixing poverty.
Abolish the minimum wage
Continually raising the minimum wage raises the lowest rung on the "Ladder of Success" above the reach of the nation's poorest and least educated citizens, meaning they can't even mount the ladder, let alone climb it, forcing the poor out of the mainstream economy.
Abolish government certification and regulation
The private sector does and can regulate itself without a single taxpayer penny, like Underwriter's Laboratories, Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards, the Society of Automotive Engineers (those SAE numbers you see on oil cans), Consumer Reports, Edmunds Used Car Pricing guide and a multitude of others that will blossom overnight once the government's coercive browbeating disappears.
If private vetting organizations screw up they loose their credibility and their voluntary funding; if government agencies fail in their mission to protect the public Congress gives them even more taxpayer money so they can keep on screwing up.
Replace government welfare with private welfare
Ever hear of the Elks, Eagles, and Odd Fellows? These private welfare associations began life as "fraternal organizations" or "Mutual-aid societies" that, according to a Frontier Centre for Public Policy review of Prof David Beito's book, From Mutual Aid to the Welfare State, "provided a network of services and institutions resembling virtually every aspect of today's welfare state, including health insurance, hospitals, orphanages and retirement homes."
Tens of thousands of these lodges across the country paid for burials, life insurance, unemployment, sick relief, and medical treatment through voluntary dues.
Abolish taxes
Abolish the federal income tax and replace it with nothing. Since something like 90% of what government does today is unconstitutional anyway the few "legitimate" functions of government can easily be funded by the excise taxes the founders limited themselves to in the first place.
Then keep hacking away at what's left of the coercive statist-corporatist beast while liberating the free market so it can flourish and serve everyone.
