I am throwing in the towel folks and will sit home until the Republican Party can find a candidate who speaks for me. This is a big deal for me as I cast my first vote for Ike in 1952 and have never missed a single election since that time.
I remember that first vote and drove my grandmother and her friends to the garage down the street where I received a ballot and a little stamp with an X on it. I was prepared and had read all the ballot issues and when I handed my ballot over to "Aunt Jo" I actually shed a couple of tears.
I stayed loyal to the GOP all the way through and felt it was my duty as an American to always pick the person who represented the U.S. Constitution. How foolish I was! How utterly naïve and stupid; I believed all the spin from my candidates until 1992.
Ross Perot made some wonderful sense in 1992 and I joined up after figuring out that the current GOP wanted way too much authority over my personal choices. I could see another potential prohibition mindset on the horizon and I wasn't far off. President Bush wanted a one world government which would destroy the sovereignty of America and I would not hear of it.
Sure we all knew that the Governor of Arkansas was a crook but then we had lived through other crooks and besides I figured we still had a house and senate to keep us straight. Oh yes! I was really naïve!
I was intrigued that Dole would even consider running for POTUS because his Senate voting record was terrible and I felt he should have been a democrat. No, I could not vote for Dole so I decided Harry Browne made more sense than all of them put together.
Well that didn't work either but when we had a chance at a new Republican Party; I hoped that this time a candidate would come up who had actually read the Constitution and would follow it. By this time I realized the house and senate were simply men cut from the same cookie cutter which left the full authority in the hands of a President!
I read reams of comments by the numerous candidates and had a hard time finding even one that I could trust. My trust factor in the past had been abused by terrible representatives and I was not going to go by the choice of the Republican National Committee!
Of all the men in the world who might have been able to make a successful leader, the group I saw sitting during the first debate made me nauseous. The U.S. Constitution was no longer required reading for the group sitting on the stage that first debate. They were determined to make America great by legislating laws that would make us good. I think they had it backwards but I found the entire lot a disgrace.
Nobody on that panel of debaters was saying what I wanted to hear. I gave it my undivided attention and never missed a debate. The final blow was the debates between Gore and Bush. My friends were breathless over the wonderful remarks made by Bush and I was actually embarrassed by his performance.
No, I could not vote for Bush as he offered me absolutely nothing in the way of a fiscally balanced government. Just a lot of touchy feely things that were not under the authority of the federal government.
What Bush has done is promise Americans all the goodies that can be found under the category of Socialistic government programs. Could it be that I am the only one who can see this?
Some of my main complaints come from the Government's allowing illegal immigrants to vote and allowing these same undocumented visitor full benefits from our tax dollars. I would have thought that protecting our borders from aggression (which IS mentioned in the Constitution) might be a factor in the new government, but sadly it was ignored. A bill was brought before the house and senate in 1996 to request that INS keep their data base up to date and made available to the Registrar of Voters in every county. It was voted down! I hoped that President Bush would reintroduce this most important bill and keep our voting laws legal. Nope! Along these same lines, no immigration changes were even discussed and we all know what our open borders have brought to America.
I am tired of this monkey business and have decided to put my voting history behind me. Everybody in America is looking for a "moral leader" which to me is one who will attempt to correct the botched up mess we are currently living with. Apparently I am alone on this and the people are looking for a man who can keep his pants zipped and everything else he does is fine.
What is comes down to is, I don't give a damn who runs America anymore. I figure I saw the best of my country during and after World War 2 and everything that has happened since then is on a downhill slope. I won't be responsible for the complete destruction of America but if we don't get our ducks in a row and wake up to the threats of the rest of the world then we will be bombed out of our beds and frankly folks, I don't give a damn!
I will end my time attending plays and concerts and not looking twice at any candidate ever again. Whatever happened to the ideal American leader?
