Excelsior 2007 Chardonnay South Africa

Overall, this wine is not really a sipping wine. It’s best suited to a dinner requiring it’s acidity to bring something to the party. Otherwise you might want to look elsewhere.

Labouré-Roi 2006 Red France

So bitter sweet; It has the basis to be great, but never follows through. Possibly it was a bad year for the grape? Use on an impure maiden or just to swill the night away.

Abrazo 2005 Garnacha Spain

Use for a night of carousing. Your entourage will drink whatever you get them, and that bar wench you've been fancying will quaff without complaint. It's good, but nothing special.

Jacob's Creek 2006 Shiraz Australia

For having no distinguishable flavors, this is a pretty tasty wine. Maybe I'm starting to like bland more than I use to? While not for your highly sophisticated crowd, it goes well with any casual event. Water sprites, tree nymphs, or even a mountain satyr bud, this goes well with all.

The Little Penguin 2005 Chardonnay Australia

It’s a modest effort by this winery. Not overly aggressive, this wine doesn’t try too hard to please but it’s not terrible either. Another in a series of so-so wines I’ve had of late.

Black Swan 2006 Chardonnay Australia

In a word, lousy! Try Hayes Ranch, Coppola Gold Label, Kendall Jackson or Dynamite for a chardonnay, or their Shiraz-Cabernet, which is much better.

Llano 2005 Chenin Blanc Texas

It’s drinkable wine from Texas. Try this one instead of the typical White Zin you might be uncorking tonight.

Ste. Chateau Michelle 2005 Chardonnay Washington

It’s a good effort, at least in my humble opinion and a better sipping wine than a dinner wine. Something with more subtle notes would have scored higher.

CollePino 2005 Sangiovese & Merlot Italy

Bob is off having his tail chased, or was that chasing tail? Either way, he won't be joining us tonight for this review. So, work with me here and in my best Bacchus voice:

Yes, this has very little leggings. With a very nice deep ruby colour. I do smell some soft berry notes, but can't identify which ones. After tasting, I'm unable to taste the berries, so I still can't identify what berry it might have been. It is harsh, a bit bitter, and if I didn't usually just swill wines I might be able to tell you if it was tannins or turpentine for a finish. Frankly I thought the Italians did better than this. Okay, enough of trying to do Bacchus' job, I don't think I have the pallet.

Trick 2004 Blended Red California

Another “All Hallows Eve” wine (aka Halloween). It is one of a pair of wines, the other being “Treat.” In a word, the wine is unspectacular. Consider “haunting” another wine instead.

Vampire 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon California

Just in time for All Hallows Eve, (a.k.a. Halloween). There are several varieties under this label, the cab being one of them. I’m feeling I’ve should have chosen one of the others. NOTE: uses a plastic cork, if that makes a difference to you.

Ménage a Trios 2006 Blended Red California

It is a trio of Zin, Merlot and Cab grapes. Not a bad sipping wine, but serve it slightly chilled (the Zin part might need this more), decant and let it breath for 15 minutes or so, as it was much better.

Rotari Arte Italiana Brut Trento Italy

It’s a sparkling wine from Italy, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes and certainly an expensive way to toast something than with Champagne.

Yalumba 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia

Not a bad wine, but one that could do with another year to two before drinking, if possible.

Llano 2005 Chenin Blanc Texas USA

It’s drinkable wine from Texas. Try this one instead of the typical White Zin you might be uncorking tonight.
