Chardonnay

Rolling 2005 Chardonnay Australia

Well, Rolling does exactly that. It rolls, but mostly downhill. A wine that’s better suited to dinner (just barely) than sipping (just barely). It’s one wine you might skip, as there are other better choices out there.

Hob Nob 2006 Chardonnay France

It’s a bit of an oddity. This wine strives to be more like a desert wine than a chardonnay. A nice change of pace if you are looking for such a wine. But it’s better suited to sipping than dinner

Tin Roof Cellars 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a wine of a somewhat lackluster effort and you might want to ignore the marketing blurb on the back label. You could do worse, but frankly, there are other better choices out there.

Alice White 2006 Chardonnay Australia

It’s a wine that is lackluster at best. Another word might be “blah”. Not one I’d recommend for sipping or with dinner. Other Chardonnays for the price are better choices. Try them first.

Tormaresca 2006 Chardonnay Italy

This one tasted better in the store than at home. Not a bad wine by any stretch of the imagination, just not what I remembered tasting in the store. Did I somehow get the wrong bottle?

Arrow Creek 2005 Chardonnay California

It’s a passable white wine for most occasions. Sipable, if the 2nd bottle you open for the evening. It would be ok for dinner too, but don’t tax it too much.

Devour 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a pedestrian wine, at best. Better for dinner than sipping by itself, perhaps. It’s one of many I’ve had of late. In a word, don’t Devour.

McManis 2006 Chardonnay California

The McManis is a McMiss, in a big way. It’s another in a series of lousy white McWines. I'm not sure you'd want to even serve it with dinner.

Castle Rock 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s another wine in a long, long series of late of sturdy, if unspectacular white wines. It may be time to switch to reds for a while. This one isn’t bad, just not particularly special.

Pine & Post 2004 Chardonnay Washington

Pine & Post is taken pillar to post with this review. Not a sipping wine to be sure, but better with a dinner more that anything else. May I suggest perhaps Chicken Saltimbocca? Better wine choices for the price: Fisheye 2004 or Crane Lake 2004. Both wines are $6 or less.

Excelsior 2007 Chardonnay South Africa

Overall, this wine is not really a sipping wine. It’s best suited to a dinner requiring it’s acidity to bring something to the party. Otherwise you might want to look elsewhere.

Gallo Sonoma Reserve 2005 Chardonnay California

Honestly, for the price, you can do better. The Sebeka 2006 Chardonnay I tried earlier is a better choice, and for less money, IMHO. Try that one instead.

The Little Penguin 2005 Chardonnay Australia

It’s a modest effort by this winery. Not overly aggressive, this wine doesn’t try too hard to please but it’s not terrible either. Another in a series of so-so wines I’ve had of late.

Sebeka 2006 Chardonnay South Africa

Another “theme” wine from South Africa. On this one there’s a picture of a cheetah – in full run – on the label and they even follow through with cute cheetah print spotting on the fake cork. What’s inside? Surprisingly, it’s a pretty good wine. I’ve had worse from South Africa.

Mirassou 2005 Chardonnay California

It’s a so-so wine at best. Not bad, but nothing special either. Good with dinner perhaps as the acidity will help cut through most light fare.
